Wow!! Where do I start?! This place is only open for breakfast / early lunch hours. Seat yourself when you walk in. Service is great! Shae was our waitress and she is super nice, attentive, and quick! The place is very clean. They play gospel music which is a nice touch, it makes it feel like mom cooking at home.
The food is perfect! I had the fish & grits, I tasted someone else's bacon at my table, I had a waffle, biscuit, hash brown, and OJ. The portions were so generous I didn't finish all of it! The fried catfish was the best I've ever tasted! Crisp, made to order, seasoned perfectly. The price point is very reasonable. The bacon was good and thick! No complaints on food!
The only critique I have for this place is the payout process. We had to go up to the front counter at the end and try to remember all the items we had and they had to sort through it and then charge us and we paid there. That's not a convenient setup for customers. There were 4 of us all paying separately. My suggestion would be for the waiter to write out our orders on those order pads and give one to each of us before we walk over to the front counter. Then all we have to do is pay the number on the ticket at the counter. -

This place has great potential but needs to improve on two key areas...
1) The chef/cook did not have gloves on when cooking. My guest saw the chef/cook touch the hash browns with his hands while cooking it on the grill. Although, the chef/cook was nice, he is practicing unsafe cooking techniques. And we saw all of this from the front window area when I walked out of the restaurant.
2) The service was not good. You literally walk in and you stand around for a good two minutes until one of the waitresses acknowledges your presence. And then when you finally seat yourself, you have to wait over 30+ minutes to get your food. When taking the order of my guest and myself, the waitress did not write it down. So when the food arrived, my guest was not surprised that his order was incorrect. In addition, a couple that came in after us received their meal ahead of myself and my guest. In the process of 30+ minute long wait, the waitress was inattentive and stopped by very few times. As somewhat of an excuse, only two waitresses were helping all the guests.
As it relates to the food...
I ordered ham, eggs over easy, hash browns and a biscuit with gravy. My food was really good and had a lot of flavor. The only problem with my meal is that they gave a very small portion of hash browns. I have pictures of the meal below.
My guest ordered chicken fried steak, over easy eggs, hash browns, and white toast (he ordered wheat toast not white toast). The chicken fried steak was very thin and was not filling. The hash browns received was a very small portion as mentioned before. My guest was very upset at the quantity of hash browns given.
In conclusion, my guest and I will not be back.

The chicken and waffle was near perfect. Chicken was nicely seasoned and crispy. The waffle was crunchy and the combination delicious. If I was to advise the owner, I will tell them to create a unique sauce to go with the chicken and waffle, something Brown Sugar in San Francisco did that made her stand out.
I tasted the catfish and though it was crunchy it tasted too clean. It wasn't tasting like fish. The seasoning didn't work. My wife also sent back her grits because of lumps. They replaced it and it was good. They need to get it right on the first attempt. Nice spacious restaurant with great potential. The waiter is too rigid. This seem to be a family restaurant and the gospel music seem to be their preference. I will recommend loosening up the environment with some R&B music. I'll be back for the chicken and waffle. -

My boyfriend and I visited Mister James on a Friday morning. It's seat your self. It was two workers one taking orders and another cooking. It was only one other couple there. My boyfriend order the pancakes and smothered hash browns I had the waffle w/ eggs and bacon. The waffle was delicious! There is butter already on the table and the waiter brought out the syrup . Bacon was good so were the eggs . My boyfriend really enjoyed his hash browns they were season well . Service was quick and the waiter was very attentive. You pay at the front . When we left more people were coming in so luckily we missed the rush . Last time I can here in a Saturday AM it was packed 45min wait so best to come on a off day .

First time trying Mister James food and I can truly say I am impressed.....I was on my way to another place to eat and decided to try them. I can't believe that I have never tried them before. Even though I am moving out of Cedar Hill this week, I will be back. GREAT FOOD and SERVICE!
